Hamas: Israel’s airstrikes a renewed attempt to cover up its failure

Sunday 22-August-2021

The Hamas Movement has described Israel’s aerial attacks on Gaza last night as “a renewed attempt to cover up its failure to stand in the face of the Gazan people and their valiant resistance.”

“It is obvious that the Zionist occupation has miscalculated the situation ignored the message of our people and their resistance factions and started firing live ammunition directly at them including journalists and children wounding dozens of them” Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in press remarks on Sunday. .

“With steadfastness and resolve Gaza has risen up once again for the Aqsa Mosque and the holy sites and made the enemy taste some of its fire. Our great people alongside their resistance will certainly win and the occupation and its blockade will come to an end” spokesman Barhoum added.

In a related context the Israeli occupation army on Sunday announced it had bolstered its Gaza front with additional troops after its border forces on Saturday intensively fired live ammunition at young men and wounded many of them as they were rallying on the border to protest Israel’s inhumane blockade and to mark the 52nd Aqsa arson attack anniversary.

One Israeli border soldier was critically injured in his head during the events when a Gazan young man with a pistol opened fire at him through a hole in the security concrete wall. Israeli snipers used such holes during the clashes to open fire at Palestinian protesters.

At least 41 young protesters including kids were injured by Israeli live ammunition during the events two of them critically according to the health ministry in Gaza.

In response to the injury of this one soldier the Israeli occupation army decided to escalate the tension with overnight airstrikes on Gaza.

Tensions have risen between Hamas and the occupation state in recent weeks as mediated talks to strengthen the ceasefire appeared to hit a brick wall as a result of the Israeli government’s intransigence and its unwillingness to lift or ease the siege on Gaza.
