Hamas’s parliamentary delegation headed by Mahmoud al-Zahar on Saturday met with the head of the African National Congress bloc Jackson Mthembu at South Africa’s parliament.
In addition to al-Zahar Hamas’s Change and Reform bloc’s delegation includes Marwan Abu Ras Mohammed al-Ghoul and Mushir al-Masri.
Mthembu welcomed the Hamas MPs and affirmed that the Palestinian people have the full support of his country and party.
For his part al-Zahar expressed his appreciation for the African National Congress and discussed with Mthembu the political situation in the Palestinian territories including the settlement construction in Jerusalem and the West Bank and the Israeli crimes against the Great March of Return protesters in the Gaza Strip.
The Hamas MPs also highlighted many issues such as the suffering of the Palestinians detained in the Israeli jails the Israeli violations against MPs and bilateral cooperation between the two parliamentary blocs to support the Palestinian cause.
Mthembu announced that the African National Congress the ruling party in South Africa has decided to reduce Israel’s diplomatic representation in South Africa.
He also confirmed that the Congress would discuss the possible ways to support the Palestinian people in its coming meeting.
The Hamas MPs concluded the meeting by inviting the South Africa parliamentarians to visit the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian Legislative Council.
The delegation is scheduled to meet with the Speaker of the Parliament of South Africa and other senior officials in the coming days.
