GAZA (PIC)– Hamas and Fatah factions have agreed to contain the unfortunate clashes that were started by elements affiliated with the mutiny trend within Fatah and the PA security apparatuses in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah Thursday morning.
The Strip has been witnessing calm on the internal front for two weeks after bloody clashes between the two factions claimed tens of Palestinian lives.
The Rafah clashes claimed one Palestinian life and wounded nine others including three children.
According to eyewitnesses a group of elements affiliated with Fatah faction and the infamous PA preventive security apparatus irrationally opened their machinegun fire at a group of Qassam Brigades fighters monitoring IOF mobilization in the area prompting the clashes.
Sami Abu Zuhri one of Hamas’ political leaders in Gaza affirmed that his Movement exerted tremendous efforts with prudent figures in Fatah faction to sort out the problem and contain the clashes.
He also stressed his Movement’s utmost concern with preserving national unity and of aborting “enemies’ attempts” to ignite a civil war in the Palestinian arena.
But he was open in accusing a group of vandals that he charged penetrated Fatah faction and the PA security apparatuses of initiating the clashes. He said “They (vandals) move and emit their poison in the Palestinian arena every time Palestinian factions become closer to striking a national deal”.
He even cited the abduction of one of PA premier Ismail Haneyya’s bodyguards at the hands of that group and the torture sessions he underwent while under detention as part of this trend’s scheme.
Palestinian resistance factions held separate meetings with Egyptian officials including Egypt’s intelligence chief Omar Suleiman in Cairo to discuss ways and means to get rid of the internecine fighting one and for all and to enhance Palestinian national unity.
