Hamas asks Belgian gov’t to implement parliament’s motion over Israel

Saturday 27-June-2020

The Hamas Movement has urged the Belgian government to implement the resolution adopted by the parliament calling for condemning Israel’s pending annexation plan and taking counter-measures against it if it decided to go forward with such step.

In a press release Hamas spokesman Hazem Qasem valued the decision that was taken by the Belgian parliament calling on its counterparts across the world to follow suit and press their governments to take punitive measures against Israel over its intents to annex occupied Palestinian territories.

The Hamas spokesman also expressed hope that the international community and its bodies could take real and serious steps to prevent Israel from carrying out its colonial plans.

The Belgian parliament on Friday passed with an overwhelming majority a resolution urging the government to swiftly move to prevent Israel from unilaterally annexing the Jordan Valley and parts of the West Bank and to back European-wide intentions to punish Israel if it proceeds with the plan.

The Chamber of Representatives in Brussels also asked the government to take action against annexation at the UN Security Council of which it is currently a member.

The Chamber was also scheduled to discuss and vote on a motion calling for the recognition of a Palestinian state but this was postponed.
