Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas appealed to the new Lebanese government to allocate an article in its policy statement that gives Palestinian refugees their basic human rights.
Hamas movement asked the new government in a press release by its Beirut office on Tuesday to allocate an article that ensures Palestinian refugees’ rights and to launch a Palestinian-Lebanese dialogue to address all issues of common interest in order to reach solutions.
“We followed the policy statement of the new Lebanese government with great interest and we congratulate Lebanon on it hoping this will be a new beginning for success and prosperity” the statement added.
Hamas statement valued the Lebanese government’s emphasis on the Palestinian right of return and its calls on international organizations to rebuild Nahr al-Bared camp for Palestinian refugees.
However Hamas said that this is not enough especially that the statement did not include any pledges to grant Palestinian refugees in Lebanon their basic human rights particularly the right to work own property and join unions.
“Granting Palestinian refugees in Lebanon their basic human rights is considered to be an essential point in the lives of Palestinian refugees and a major factor in the joint Lebanese-Palestinian relations. This issue was a permanent point for discussion at all levels and represented the core of the Lebanese-Palestinian dialogue committee’s work” Hamas stated.
