Hamas calls for active popular support for hunger-striking prisoners

Thursday 1-September-2022

The Hamas Movement has called for organizing and actively participating in events and activities in support of the Palestinian prisoners during their current battle against Israeli suppression.

In press remarks to Quds Press on Thursday Hamas spokesman Jihad Taha urged the Palestinian masses to engage in large-scale confrontations with the Israeli occupation forces across the occupied territories in solidarity with the prisoners who intend to launch an open-ended mass hunger strike later today.

Spokesman Taha described the prisoners’ protest steps as a “heroic battle and a new stage of struggle against the Israeli prison service” which he accused of “trying to deprive the Palestinian prisoners of their human and social rights.”

He also applauded the participation of prisoners from different factions and political spectra in the intended hunger strike as a “reflection of the Captive Movement’s unity and harmony in Israeli prisons.”

Around 1200 Palestinian prisoners intend to go on open-ended hunger strike on Thursday evening to pressure the Israeli prison service to respond to their demands.
