Hamas condemns the murder of 70-year-old Palestinian in Iraq

Tuesday 28-November-2006

The Hamas Movement on Monday strongly condemned the murder of the oldest Palestinian refugee in Iraq after his kidnap and torture at the hands of Iraqi armed militias.

A responsible source in the Movement said in a press release that Tawfik Abdul Khalek 70 disappeared last Wednesday in Baghdad and was found earlier Monday killed after severe torture rounds.

The Movement also denounced the incessant harassments and assaults against Palestinian refugees in Iraq by “spiteful hands” that got used to “shedding blood of innocents including Palestinians who have long lived in peace in Iraq over the past five decades during which they were the best of guests for the best of hosts”.

Hamas asked the Iraqi government the national forces and Islamic leaders to intervene and halt such practices that harmed the image of the Iraqi people and the entire Muslim Ummah.

It also asked for investigating the kidnap incident of martyr Abdul Khalek and prosecuting the culprits to restrain the recurrence of such attacks on Palestinians in Iraq.

The Movement finally appealed to the Iraqi sects races and tribes to unite in face of the American occupation of their country to avoid a sectarian strife.
