Hamas’s spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said that a Hamas delegation is scheduled to arrive in Cairo Wednesday evening at the request of Egyptian officials.
Barhoum said in a press statement that the delegation will be led by the deputy head of Hamas’s Political Bureau Sheikh Saleh al-Arouri and will include members Mousa Abu Marzouk Khalil al-Hayya Husam Badran Ezzat al-Resheq and Rawhi Mushtaha.
He added that the Hamas delegation is set to discuss with Egyptian officials bilateral relations and recent developments in the Palestinian and Arab arena.
Hamas in a statement Tuesday called on the Palestinian Authority (PA) to lift the punitive measures imposed on the Gaza Strip and confirmed its willingness to achieve national reconciliation based on the Cairo and Beirut agreements in 2011 and 2017 respectively.
Over a year ago the PA government decided to wage a series of sanctions against the Gaza Strip including cutting 30%-50% of the salaries of PA employees in Gaza forcing thousands of them into early retirement halting medical referrals and reducing power supplies to the blockaded enclave.
Egypt about a week ago invited Fatah and Hamas movements to visit Cairo to resume reconciliation talks and put an end to the internal division which started in June 2007.
Hamas and Fatah signed a reconciliation agreement in Cairo on 12th October 2017 which has not been fully implemented due to disagreements over issues related to the PA government’s empowerment and Gaza employees appointed by Hamas since 2007.
