Hamas delegation led by Sinwar arrives in Cairo

A senior delegation of the Hamas Movement arrived in Cairo on Sunday to discuss with Egyptian officials bilateral relations and Palestinian developments.

Hazem Qassem a Hamas spokesman told the PIC that the delegation is headed by leader of Hamas in Gaza Yehya Sinwar and includes political bureau member Rawhi Mushtaha and Gaza’s interior undersecretary Tawfiq Abu Naim.

He said that the delegates left Gaza via Rafah crossing and arrived in the Egyptian capital to hold meetings with “brothers in Egypt for a discussion on a number of issues of common interest”.

The discussions will tackle means of boosting bilateral relations and latest developments of the Palestinian cause Qassem said adding that the Israeli siege on Gaza and the opening of Rafah crossing as a means to alleviate results of that siege would be also discussed.

For his part member of the Movement’s political bureau in Gaza Salah al-Bardawil said that the visit falls in line with the constant contacts and consultations with the “Egyptian brothers”.

He said that the Hamas delegation that arrived in Cairo on Sunday afternoon will discuss developing bilateral relations and “horizons” of the Palestine cause in light of regional developments.

The talks will also deal with the humanitarian conditions in Gaza in light of the Israeli blockade and the role Egypt could play in alleviating its repercussions in addition to the importance of opening the Rafah crossing for Palestinian passengers Bardawil concluded in a brief statement.

This is the first visit out of the Gaza Strip for Sinwar after his election last February as chairman of Hamas’s political leadership in Gaza.
