A Hamas delegation headed by the head of the Movement’s Political Bureau Ismail Haneyya is to arrive in Cairo on Friday.
Hamas’s spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a press statement that the delegation which includes along with Haneyya Khalil al-Hayya Rawhi Mushtaha and Fathi Hammad is set to meet with some Egyptian officials.
Barhoum pointed out that this visit followed advance arrangements to consult with Egypt on ways to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza and discuss further steps in the reconciliation process.
He added that the visit also comes within the framework of the efforts made by Hamas to defend the Palestinian cause and confront the recent US Jerusalem move.
The Egyptian authorities on Wednesday decided to open Rafah crossing for three days in both directions.
The Egyptian-sponsored reconciliation process between Fatah and Hamas seems to be in a stagnation phase due to the Palestinian Authority government’s procrastination in implementing the agreements signed by the two movements.
