Hamas denies Dahalan appointment made in coordination with it

Monday 19-March-2007

GAZA (PIC)– The Hamas Movement on Monday categorically denied media reports that PA chief Mahmoud Abbas’ appointment of Fatah MP Mohammed Dahalan as national security advisor was made in coordination with it.

The Movement in a statement said that Hamas agreed with Abbas on resorting to the Palestinian law if any differences arose between them.

Hamas said that Abbas’ step was in violation of the Palestinian law which prohibits a PLC member from assuming any other job.

It said that the media claims that Hamas leader Khaled Mishaal agreed on the matter with Abbas during the Makkah talks were “baseless”.

For his part Hamas MP Mushir Al-Masri affirmed that Dahalan’s appointment was “illegal and unconstitutional” in addition to being a “flagrant violation of the PLC’s bylaws”.

He clarified that the articles 8 and 9 of the PLC law clearly stipulate that a PLC member should not assume any other job.

Masri told PIC that Dahalan has to choose between two things either to remain as a PLC deputy or to resign and assume the government post.
