Member of the Hamas political bureau and in charge of the prisoners’ file Zaher Jabarin denied media reports about reaching a prisoner swap deal with Israel.
Saudi-financed Al-Arabiya TV channel has earlier reported that there was “a significant progress” in negotiations between Israel and Hamas regarding a potential prisoner exchange deal.
However Jabarin strongly denied the report calling on media outlets to avoid spreading fake news and rumors.
Spreading such rumors will not succeed to pressure the Palestinian resistance leadership he said in a brief statement on Sunday evening.
The armed wing of Hamas Al-Qassam Brigades reportedly holds four Israeli soldiers captive including two soldiers captured during the Israeli war on Gaza in the summer of 2014.
An estimated 4650 Palestinians are held in Israeli jails including 200 children 40 women and 520 administrative detainees.
