GAZA (PIC)– The Hamas Movement strongly denounced on Saturday PA chief Mahmoud Abbas’s call for deployment of international forces in the Gaza Strip and confirmed that any such troops would be treated as “occupation forces”.
“Abbas seems to be insisting on compounding his error both in terms of sending international forces or in terms of calling for early legislative elections which were rejected by Hamas” a responsible Hamas source said commenting on Abbas’s statement during his press conference in Paris Friday evening in which he called for dispatching international forces to the Gaza Strip in order to supervise early elections.
The official source added: “Abbas should have been biased in favor of the national priorities that concern our people at this stage and for working to restore cohesion of the Palestinian political system and to reorganize the Palestinian internal arena rather than being hostage to the American and Israeli wishes.”
He finally concluded that Abbas should have rather called for withdrawal of IOF troops from the West Bank instead of calling for new occupation forces in the Strip.
For his part Dr. Ghazi Hamad the spokesman of the PA caretaker government’s premier warned of internationalizing the internal Palestinian crisis in the event international forces were sent to Gaza.
Hamad said that Palestinians have a main concern which is occupation that should be discussed with the world community in order to find a way to end that occupation and to restore the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights. He added “We should seriously and deeply discuss whether the Palestinian people would gain anything from the presence of those international forces”.
