GAZA (PIC)– Hamas denounced the assaults committed on Tuesday morning by Fatah-affiliated masked militia on mass picket organized by women in front of Junaid prison in Nablus in protest at the torture practiced against their relatives in Fatah-controlled PA jails.
In violation of international conventions and divine religions the masked security militia shot in the air to disperse female protesters along with their children and threatened to use harsh words if they came any closer; they also barbarously tore and trampled on banners carried by the women and confiscated their cell phones Hamas’s statement highlighted.
It added that the militia prevented any media coverage of this peaceful march and assaulted TV reporters; they also forced the security guards at the Najah University to prevent female students from participating in the picket or even watch it from a distance.
The Movement said that assaulting the media and preventing its reporters from covering a peaceful female march reveals the level of arbitrary acts practiced by PA chief Mahmoud Abbas’s militia against international and local media aiming to prevent them from covering the facts in the West Bank.
Hamas held Abbas fully responsible for repercussions of muzzling liberties and called upon him to order the release of all the Palestinians kidnapped and detained in his jails.
For its part a committee of relatives of those held in PA jails asked Abbas to assume his responsibility as head of the PA and to issue orders for the immediate release of all those kidnapped and tortured in his security apparatuses’ jails.
In a statement on Wednesday the committee expressed surprise at the “shameful silence” on the part of most factions regarding such practices.
It said that 120 individuals have so far been abducted and held in PA jails in the West Bank with no information on their conditions or needs especially when among them are the sick and old people.
