Hamas discusses with Miladinov lifting siege on Gaza

Nikolai Miladinov the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process met on Wednesday with the leadership of Hamas Movement to discuss measures to ease the siege on the Gaza Strip.

Abdul Latif Al-Qanou Hamas spokesman said in a radio statement “The leadership of the Hamas Movement met with the UN envoy Nikolai Miladinov and discussed with him ways to provide relief to our people in the Gaza Strip lift the siege and solve the Strip’s crises.”

He added that the meeting with Miladinov followed up on previous efforts by the United Nations to end the Gaza siege.

Qanou continued “We are keen that the mediators’ efforts will be crowned with practical steps on the ground which benefit Palestinians including implementing previously agreed projects.”

Miladinov mediated in the last ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian resistance and the Israeli occupation a month ago.

Egypt the United Nations and Qatar have led consultations for several months to reach a truce between the Palestinian factions in Gaza and the Israeli occupation based on easing the siege imposed on the Strip in exchange for stopping the protests organized by the Palestinians near the Gaza borders.

Miladinov left the Gaza Strip through the Beit Hanoun (Erez) checkpoint in the northern Gaza Strip afternoon Wednesday after a short visit that lasted several hours.

The visit of the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process comes as part of the UN efforts and mediations to stabilize the ceasefire understandings that were reached recently.
