Hamas exerts tremendous efforts to stop fighting in refugee camp

BEIRUT (PIC)– The political leadership of Hamas Movement was and still is exerting intensive efforts with concerned Lebanese and Palestinian parties in a bid to stop the clashes at Nahr Al-Bared refugee camp in north Lebanon.

According to information obtained by the PIC Hamas officials in Lebanon headed by Osama Hamdan the Movement’s representative in Lebanon had contacted a number of concerned Lebanese officials including security parties as well as representatives of Palestinian factions in Lebanon.

Official sources in Hamas affirmed that the Movement’s main priority at the moment is to stop the fighting spare lives of the refugees and to extend to them the needed assistance.

Moreover Hamas stressed the need for forming a united Palestinian political authority in Lebanon comprising all Palestinian political parties so as to deal with issues pertaining to the Palestinian refugees in that Arab country.

However the Movement utilized every moment to be able to reach thousands of refugees stranded in the said camp as it provided trucks loaded with medical supplies and foodstuff and sent them to the beleaguered camp.

Palestinian refugees in the nearby Al-Badawi refugee camp have also rushed to the help of their Palestinian brothers donating blankets drinks food and medicine among other urgent needs the Al-Bared inhabitants asked for.

Volunteers from Hamas headed with the relief convoy northward to Al-Bared camp exploiting the temporary ceasefire declared by the warring parties but unfortunately it was caught in crossfire as it was approaching the camp’s entrance prompting the convoy to retreat after an ambulance was directly fired at.

The Lebanese army is battling with a group calling itself Fatah-Islam of unknown origin and composition in Al-Bared camp inflicting heavy civilian casualties and properties.

The camp’s inhabitants appealed to the Lebanese official parties to stop the tragedy in the camp affirming that scores of civilians were killed and wounded due to the intensive Lebanese army pounding of their homes.
