Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas hailed South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma for calling on South Africans not to visit Israel in order to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.
In a statement on Thursday Hamas said Zuma’s calls affirm the continuation of South Africa’s support for the Palestinian Question and the Palestinian people’s efforts to achieve freedom.
Hamas called on all countries to follow suit and to support the boycott of Israel until the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories is brought to an end.
Zuma’s comments came at the 105th anniversary celebration of the ruling African National Congress (ANC).
South Africa’s government perceives Israeli policies against Palestinians as similar to the apartheid policy under which the white minority ruled the country from 1948 to 1994.
