Hamas hails unity government asks for its backing to resistance

Sunday 18-March-2007

GAZA (PIC)– The Hamas Movement on Sunday declared its full support for the PA unity government and called on it to back resistance against occupation and to work for the release of all prisoners.

The Movement said in a statement that the government’s political program came in unison with Palestinian general demands which differs from that of Hamas but the higher interests of the Palestinian people at the current “serious stage” necessitated a compromise program that would group all Palestinian forces.

It affirmed in this regard that Hamas’ strategic program would never change and that there would be no surrender of constants or rights and there would be no recognition of occupation.

Hamas hoped that the unity government would immediately work for the release of kidnapped ministers and lawmakers and all Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli occupation jails.

It said that the government should also accord priority to the issue of national reconciliation among all Palestinian forces and families in order to heal the wounds that blistered the people as a result of the regretful incidents in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Hamas pointed out that the government should also work to achieve the higher goals of the Palestinian people in freedom establishment of independent state ending colonization and liberating captives.

The Movement finally asked the Arab countries to reactivate their decision to break the siege imposed on the Palestinian people.
