Hamas in WB asks leadership not to go to dialog without the release of detainees

Wednesday 18-February-2009

RAMALLAH (PIC)– Hamas Movement in the West Bank issued a statement on Wednesday asking the Movement’s leadership not to go to national dialog before the release of all political detainees in the West Bank.

It said that a positive atmosphere should precede any initiation of national dialog for the sake of reaching serious and fruitful results.

The Movement stressed that it was keen on success of the dialog and that is why it was insisting on providing a suitable atmosphere before its start.

Hamas quoting special reliable sources said that the PA in the West Bank and commanders of its security apparatuses were trying to tamper with the issue of the political detainees through indicting them on fabricated criminal or other civil charges.

Meanwhile the prisoners’ affairs ministry in Gaza asked the Ramallah authority to release the correspondents of the Quds TV in the West Bank Samer Khuweira and Ahmed Bikawi who have been held in custody for almost a month.

It said in a press release on Wednesday that the Ramallah authority’s detention of journalists was harming the Palestine cause and was only serving occupation.

The ministry charged that the detention of Quds correspondents represented a “stab in the back of those who sacrificed their times and endangered their lives for the sake of supporting the Palestinian people” other than falling in line with the policy of restraining the freedom of expression.
