The Hamas Movement has applauded the countries hosting Palestinian refugees for opposing UNRWA’s decision to transfer its mandate to other organizations.
In a statement on Monday Hamas spokesman Jihad Taha described the position of these countries as “an important step in the right direction to safeguard the Palestinian refugees’ rights and UNRWA’s role as a living witness to the refugees’ plight.”
Spokesman Taha urged UNRWA to backtrack on any decision that would detract from its basic role and to fulfill to the duties entrusted to it since its inception.
“We call upon UNRWA as it is on the verge of convening its advisory commission that will be chaired by Lebanon on Tuesday to provide guarantees for the continuity of its work and to emphasize its leading role in the relief and employment of Palestinian refugees in its five locations and its role in strengthening their steadfastness and preserving their dignity in order for them to live a decent life” the spokesman said.
