Qalqilia– Sheikh Riyadh Al-Walwil 50 was wounded after dawn prayers Wednesday in a failed assassination attempt made by a number of unknown gunmen in Qalqilia city PA interior ministry sources reported.
They told PIC that armed men in a white Subaru approached the Sheikh who had just concluded his dawn prayers in one of the mosques and fired at him from a Kalashnikov rifle hitting him with two bullets.
They said that Walwil was taken to the UNRWA-run hospital in the city then to the Arab hospital in Nablus city where medical sources described his condition as “stable” and added that he was hit with bullets in his hand and thigh.
One of the Hamas leaders in Qalqilia said that the failed assassination attempt would not weaken the Movement’s keenness on preserving national unity but at the same time would not let the incident pass unchecked.
He affirmed that preliminary investigations indicated that a number of elements known for their hatred to Palestinian unity were the culprits and added that the Movement had a number of clues but would not divulge them.
