Hamas raps Schmale for “shocking” remarks demands apology

The Hamas Movement has expressed its shock and dismay at recent remarks made by UNRWA operations director Matthias Schmale to Israel’s Channel 12 about the last aggression against the Gaza Strip describing what he said as “direct incitement against the population and their property in Gaza.”

In a statement on Tuesday Hamas said that Schmale installed himself as “a military analyst and spokesman for the Israeli occupation army” calling on UNRWA to officially apologize to the Palestinian people take legal and administrative action against him and ensure that such thing does not happen again.

“Schmale justified the targeting of civilians and their homes downplayed the size of the losses and lauded [what he called] the occupation army’s ability to bomb targets with accuracy” the Palestinian resistance group underlined.

“We’d like to remind Mr. Schmale that he is UNRWA operations director and his primary job is to protect employ and help refugees and not to justify aggression against them the killing of their children and the demolition of their homes” the Movement said.

“We also want to remind him that during this round of aggression against our people our human losses have been more than 250 martyrs including 66 children and 39 women in addition to about 2000 wounded people mostly children and women. Israel also bombed thousands of homes over the heads of their residents and targeted hundreds of health educational and social institutions” Hamas added.

The Movement stressed the need for every UNRWA official to abide by the mandate given to them by the UN and their humanitarian role in protecting employing and providing relief to the Palestinian refugees.

“We are proud of the historic role that UNRWA plays in serving our Palestinian people and we are keen on maintaining good relations with it in order to serve our people together and safeguard their historic rights” Hamas concluded its statement.
