Hamas renews appeal to Saudi Arabia to release Palestinian detainees

Wednesday 9-June-2021

The Hamas Movement has renewed its appeal to the Saudi authorities to release Mohamed al-Khudari his son and other Palestinian detainees in their jails.

In a press release on Tuesday senior Hamas official Ra’fat Murra described the continued detention of Khudari and other Palestinians in Saudi jails as “gross injustice” and “an affront to the Palestinian people their just cause and the Palestinian-Saudi relations.”

Murra asked the Saudi leadership “to take a bold and responsible decision to turn over a new leaf end this trial immediately and allow the detainees to return to their families especially since the detainees committed no offense.

“Dr. Khudari his fellow detainees and their families have gone through a lot of injustice and suffering for over two years so action should be taken to put an end to such injustice and the suffering being experienced by the families” the Hamas official said.

Meanwhile 83-year-old Palestinian national Mohamed al-Khudari was brought once again before the Specialized Criminal Court in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia’s counter-terror court) on Tuesday.

Khudari who suffers from serious health problems stood trial alone on trumped-up charges under the counter-terror law.

A sentencing hearing is slated to be held on June 21 for dozens of Palestinians and Jordanians including Khudari and his son Hani.

In 2019 the Saudi security authorities carried out an unjustified crackdown on Palestinian citizens rounding up dozens of them including doctors engineers and traders across the country. Most of those detainees have been living in the Kingdom for decades or many years.

Among the detainees is Hamas official Mohamed al-Khudari 83 and his son Hani 49. They were arrested on April 4 2019. Khudari the father worked for decades as a representative of Hamas in Saudi Arabia without any problems with officials in the country. He stepped down from this position years ago due to his illness and his old age.

The Saudi authorities have accused the majority of the detainees of being involved in activities and charitable work in support of their people and national cause.

Hamas renews appeal to Saudi Arabia to release Palestinian detainees

Saturday 4-April-2020

The Hamas Movement has renewed its appeal to the Saudi authorities to release Mohamed al-Khudari his son and other Palestinian detainees in their jails.

In a statement on Saturday Hamas stressed the need for releasing all Palestinian detainees in light of the spread of coronavirus and the real risks it poses to their lives.

“It has been a year since the arrest of Dr. Khudari and his son Hani in addition to dozens of our citizens and their Saudi sponsors — not for a crime they committed but because they did not forget the Palestinian question and worked on supporting it with legal and legitimate means and in compliance with their national duty and the Saudi policy that always dealt with the Palestinian issue as the nation’s central cause” Hamas said.

“It is unfortunate that Saudi Arabia has moved from its position as a supporter for this blessed and holy cause to a position where it is besieging it its people and supporters” the Movement added.
