Hamas slams Israeli police for silencing Adhan at Aqsa Mosque

Wednesday 4-May-2022

The Hamas Movement has strongly denounced the Israeli occupation police for preventing Isha Adhan (call to prayer) through loudspeakers at the Aqsa Mosque describing the practice as “a violation against Muslims’ freedom of worship.”

In a statement on Wednesday Hamas also called the Israeli measure a serious violation of the Aqsa Mosque’s sanctity and persistence in firing up the feelings of the Palestinian people and the entire Muslim nation.

The Movement held the Israeli occupation government fully responsible for the consequences of its provocative actions at the Aqsa Mosque.

It accused the Israeli government of being insistent on moving forward with the policies of escalation Judaization and suppression of religious freedoms warning that the Palestinian people would confront these policies with might and main.

Israeli police officers silenced the Isha call to prayer at the Aqsa Mosque on Tuesday evening after cutting off electricity to its external loudspeakers claiming that the Adhan sound would disturb the Israeli officials who were attending a nighttime ceremony held at the Mosque’s western wall.

Amid Palestinian concerns about settlers’ intent to storm the Islamic holy site to mark national occasions in its courtyards the Israeli police announced yesterday that Jewish visitors would be allowed to resume their tours at the Aqsa Mosque as of Thursday.
