The Hamas Movement has denounced Israel foreign minister Yair Lapid’s visit to Morocco reiterating its rejection of all forms of normalization with the occupation state.
In press remarks Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum warned that allowing such visits would have serious repercussions on the Palestinian people and their national cause and would contribute to embellishing the Israeli occupation’s image especially in light of its growing crimes and violations against the Palestinian people and their holy sites.
Spokesman Barhoum called on the Arab and Islamic countries “to necessarily maintain their allegiance to the Palestinian people support them and strengthen their steadfastness on their land.”
He also stressed the need for the Arab and Islamic countries to continue boycotting and isolating the occupation state which he said “is posing a threat to Palestine and the entire region.”
Lapid arrived in Morocco on Wednesday on an official visit which is the first of its kind by a top Israeli diplomat since the two sides upgraded their relations last year.
Israel and Morocco agreed in December 2020 to resume diplomatic ties and re-launch direct flights under a deal brokered by former US president Donald Trump.
Morocco was one of four Arab countries – along with the United Arab Emirates Bahrain and Sudan – to agree to normalize ties with the occupation state last year under US-brokered deals.
