Hamas Department of Refugee Affairs urged UNRWA to support the Palestinian Authority (PA) civil servants in Gaza.
Hamas called on UNRWA to increase ration packs for every PA worker who receives a salary of less than 1500 shekels.
Hamas statement referred to UNRWA’s Emergency Appeal for 2017 which pledged to work on securing all humanitarian needs across the Palestinian territories.
Hamas further quoted UNRWA as stating that the protracted salary crisis in Gaza affected the quality of basic services and aggravated the development crisis.
Hamas further spoke out against the cutbacks estimated at 30% up to 50% of the salaries received by the PA civil servants in Gaza.
The statement appealed to UNRWA to create employment opportunities and projects so as to rein in the swift pace of poverty and unemployment rates in the besieged coastal enclave of Gaza.
