Hamas warns of attempts to raise tensions anew

Tuesday 20-February-2007

GAZA (PIC)– The Hamas Movement on Tuesday warned that certain internal parties were trying to raise tensions anew in the Palestinian street through issuing provocative statements in the name of Fatah faction.

Hamas said that certain parties still insist on spreading strife and on tamper with the positive atmosphere prevailing in the Palestinian arena in service of an agenda known to all.

The Movement said in a statement that it was surprised at a statement signed by “Fatah – eastern region” that leveled charges at Hamas officials.

“It is painful that strife-mongers are distributing such statements at a time we are in dire need of unity and concord to confront challenges and aggressions that target our Aqsa and our historic agreement” Hamas said.

It emphasized that leveling charges and smear campaign against Hamas leaders and cadres were not acceptable and asked Fatah and other national and Islamic forces to adopt a firm stand against those elements.

Hamas renewed insistence on preserving unity of the Palestinian people and the state of harmony and “we will not allow a return to the state of tensions infighting and blind provocation”.
