GAZA (PIC)– The Hamas Movement on Tuesday welcomed Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak’s statement to an Austrian paper in which he affirmed that dialogue was the only way out of the Palestinian internal political crisis.
Sami Abu Zuhri a spokesman for the Movement in Gaza urged the Egyptian leadership and all Arabs to exert all necessary efforts to coordinate Palestinian national unity.
He also urged them to adopt whatever measures needed to lift the siege imposed on the Palestinian people especially crossings whose closure only double the Palestinians’ suffering.
Mubarak’s statement which also said that Cairo was at equal footing with each of Hamas and Fatah factions was coupled with Israeli concern over reported improvement in relations between Egypt and the Hamas-led PA caretaker government in Gaza.
Hebrew daily ‘Ha’aretz’ quoted unnamed Israeli officials as expressing concern over such a development and charging Egypt with giving a blind eye to continued smuggling from the Egyptian Sinai peninsula to the Gaza Strip.
