The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas on Friday welcomed Russia’s proposal to host a Hamas-Fatah meeting within the framework of the efforts exerted to achieve Palestinian reconciliation.
Hamas said in a press statement that the movement appreciates the efforts made by Russia to foster intra-Palestinian reconciliation.
Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov earlier on Friday said that his country is ready to host a meeting between the Palestinian groups Hamas and Fatah.
Head of Hamas’s Political Bureau Ismail Haneyya is likely to visit Moscow at the start of 2019 after he was invited by Russia’s ambassador to the Palestinian Authority during his visit to Gaza in November.
Egypt has played a major role in mediating talks between Hamas and Fatah in the presence of other Palestinian groups to bring the 11-year-long division to an end.
