Hamdallah: Employees to be reinstated according to ministries’ needs

Wednesday 29-November-2017

Palestinian premier Rami al-Hamdallah said that his decision about reinstating the civil servants who refused to report for duty following the 2007 events in Gaza would be implemented only according to the needs of the ministries and government institutions.

“I affirm that after the government finished taking a census of the pre-2007 employees in all authorities and ministries in the southern provinces it decided to instruct its ministries to work on reinstating previous civil servants as needed” Hamdallah stated in a press release on Tuesday.

The premier said he made his remarks in this regard after some parties misinterpreted the statement that was released by his government following its 180th session.

“The return of employees to their workplaces will be in accordance with what the interests of citizens and the government work dictate in order to alleviate the suffering of the population and move a step forward in the process of establishing the reconciliation as stated by the 2011 Cairo agreement and the last agreement” he added.

Different Palestinian factions including Hamas Islamic Jihad and the Democratic and Popular Fronts denounced the government’s decision to recall the retreated civil servants to their workplaces and called on it to honor the Cairo agreements and not to take hasty decisions that could obstruct or torpedo the national reconciliation.
