Hamdallah: Mission of unity gov’t in besieged Gaza making headway

Wednesday 8-November-2017

Palestinian Prime Minister Rami al-Hamdallah on Tuesday said the unity government has started to take up its duties in the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Speaking in statements released shortly after 22 medicine-laden trucks were dispatched to Gaza Strip al-Hamdallah said the Palestinian government’s mission is operating along three axes: the employees’ file security affairs and the take-over of border-crossings.

He added that the administrative committee has been activated and that the first steps have been made to work out the employees’ file.

Al-Hamdallah said a ten-day data inventory process will be carried out starting Sunday November 12 to identify the exact number and status of Gaza’s civil servants.

“We hope that the administrative committee finishes its work and finds a solution to the workers’ issue by February 1 2018” stated al-Hamdallah.

The PM stressed that the crossings cannot operate without actual control by the PA forces over the security situation in the enclave.

He urged the various Palestinian political factions that are expected to meet in Cairo on November 21 to discuss the major issues left on the reconciliation table foremost is security control over Gaza.
