Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya on Friday talked over the phone with Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas about different issues of mutual interest especially with regard to the current national reconciliation talks.
During the phone conversation Haneyya asserted his Movement’s position in support of the ongoing national dialog and stressed the importance of building a united front to confront the conspiracies facing the Palestinian people at such critical stage.
Haneyya also applauded Abbas’s speech at the UN General Assembly on Friday describing it as “expressive of the moment that [the Palestinian people] are living in this historic stage.”
For his part Abbas expressed his support for the efforts being made by Fatah Hamas and other factions to yield the desired results and pave the way for the holding of the Palestinian elections.
He highlighted the need “for everyone to be under the umbrella of the Palestinian unity to face the dangers and challenges threatening the Palestinian cause in such difficult times.”
