Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya has asserted his Movement’s determination to extract the freedom of Palestinian prisoners within the framework of a new swap deal if the Israeli side responds to its requirements.
This came during a telephone conversation between Haneyya and Mikhail Bogdanov the Russian deputy foreign minister.
The Hamas leader discussed with the Russian official different issues related to the developments of the coronavirus pandemic.
He briefed Bogdanov on the difficult incarceration and humanitarian conditions the Palestinian prisoners suffer from in Israeli jails and stressed the need to protect them against the virus and pressure the Israelis to provide what is necessary for their safety and take full responsibility for their lives.
He also highlighted the difficult living conditions being experienced by the Palestinians at home and abroad especially as a result of the anti-coronavirus measures taken in the Palestinian arena and different areas of the world.
According to Hamas this phone call was part of Haneyya’s efforts to communicate with heads of state and top officials from around the world in order to urge them and their governments to extend every possible help to the Palestinian people and contribute to alleviating their suffering during such difficult times.
