Taher an-Nunu media advisor to Hamas’s political bureau chief Ismail Haneyya said that some parties started to contact the Movement’s leadership in order to contain the situation and avoid any further escalation following Sunday’s events in Occupied Jerusalem.
In press remarks last night Nunu said that Haneyya assured these parties that what happened in Jerusalem and at the Aqsa Mosque was unforgivable and would not go unnoticed.
Haneyya also told them that the Palestinian resistance would continue its struggle against the occupation until its removal from Palestine and Jerusalem according to the media advisor.
The media advisor also affirmed that the Hamas leader refused to give pledges or guarantees to any party about what the situation on the ground could be following Israel’s aggressive practices in Jerusalem and at the Aqsa Mosque on Sunday.
“What happened was aggression against every Muslim and free person in this world” the media advisor quoted Haneyya as saying during his phone conversations with different parties.
On Sunday evening dozens of Palestinians were injured and arrested following their exposure to different assaults at the hands of Jewish settlers and police forces in and around the Old City of Jerusalem during a provocative march of flags.
Several Jewish settlers assaulted Palestinian citizens and chanted racist slogans such as “Death to Arabs” and insults against Prophet Muhammad as they marched through the streets of the Old City.
Earlier over 2600 settlers escorted by police forces desecrated the Aqsa Mosque in the morning and later in the afternoon amid settler violations such as performing Jewish prayers and waving Israeli flags in the Islamic holy site’s courtyards.
Several Palestinians were reportedly assaulted and others were arrested especially on Sunday morning as they were protesting the presence of settlers and their violations in the Mosque’s courtyards.
