Haneyya asks Abbas to recall presidential guards from the street

Tuesday 19-December-2006

GAZA (PIC)– Ismail Haneyya the PA premier has called on PA chief Mahmoud Abbas to recall the presidential guards from the street affirming that the security responsibility in the street was of the interior ministry and its apparatuses.

Haneyya was speaking during a visit to the family of Abdul Rahman Nassar one of his bodyguards who was killed during the attempt on Haneyya’s life on Thursday at the Rafah terminal.

He told reporters “We welcome any agreement among the resistance factions that would spare Palestinian blood and preserve Palestinian unity”. He emphasized that the agreement would only hold when all armed men are withdrawn from the streets.

The premier renewed his rejection to Abbas’ call for early elections warning that such a step would return the Palestinian arena ten years backwards.

He finally said that all those involved in the Rafah incident would be brought to justice and would be punished for their crimes.
