Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya on Tuesday talked over the phone with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim Al Thani and briefed him on the recent Israeli assault on the participants in the Great March of Return in the Gaza Strip.
Haneyya discussed Israel’s aggressive attitude towards Gaza protesters and its disregard for human life stressing the need for international action to hold it accountable for its crimes.
According to his office the Hamas political chief clarified that the marches of return came within the framework of a national consensus and a unified Palestinian action and explored with the Qatari Emir the possible and available steps that could be taken at the international level to respond to Israel’s massacre of Gaza protesters.
He also briefed Al Thani on the difficult economic and humanitarian conditions in Gaza and the impacts of the blockade imposed on the population for 12 years.
For his part the Qatari Emir reiterated his country’s firm stance towards the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights and expressed his full solidarity with them.
He pledged to delegate the Qatari foreign ministry to work through diplomatic channels and the UN General Assembly to condemn Israel’s aggressive practices towards the Palestinians.
The Qatari leader also promised to reactive the Palestinian cause at the UN Security Council.
