Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya has condemned the new Israeli court ruling against Sheikh Ra’ed Salah as “part of the steps to implement the US deal of the century.”

In a press release Haneyya also described the court decision to jail Sheikh Salah for 28 months as “an attempt to muzzle all free and outspoken voices defending the Aqsa Mosque and the Arab identity of Jerusalem against Israeli crimes and Judaization activities.”

He also expressed his belief that the court ruling was a continuation of the Israeli persecution campaign against Sheikh Salah expressing his Movement’s full solidarity with him and his family.

He called for “organizing a large-scale campaign in solidarity with Sheikh Salah and the Aqsa Mosque and against all steps conspiracies and crimes that are committed against the Palestinian people and their inalienable rights.”

Sheikh Ra’ed Salah a resident of Umm al-Fahm city in the 1948 occupied lands has faced arbitrary arrest and incarceration multiple times before. He is a Palestinian icon known for being a staunch defender of the Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem.
