GAZA (PIC)– The premier of the PA caretaker governemnt Ismail Haneyya has denied reports that the endeavors made by Hamas for the release of British journalist Alan Johnston was for a political reward and propaganda and denied holding any deals with the “Army of Islam” that had abducted the journalist.
“We do not expect political rewards but rather we seek to strengthen the rosy image of the Palestinian people and Hamas and the legitimate government which was granted confidence by the elected legislative council” Haneyya stated during a march organized by the Islamic Women’s Movement on Thursday evening.
In another context Haneyya emphasized that he could not disarm the Palestinian resistance fighters “as long as their weapons are utilized in the right direction” but “if any weapon is misdirected and caused chaos and disturbance; certainly we will chase its holder and confiscate his weapon so as not to revert to chaos in the Gaza Strip whose people now are living in safety.”
Regarding depriving Palestinian employees of their salaries by the unconstitutional government in Ramallah Haneyya opined: “The last thing any Palestinian was thinking of is to be fought in his livelihood because of his political affiliation and because of his adherence to the elected Palestinian legitimacy.”
