Head of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haneyya has launched a number of contacts on Friday to put an end to the Israeli repeated assaults on Al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem.
Haneyya phoned senior Egyptian intelligence officials and discussed the serious situation in Jerusalem and the Al-Aqsa Mosque due to the Israeli brutal attacks on unarmed worshippers inside of the holy site according to a Hamas press statement.
The Israeli forces must be held accountable for their brutal attacks Haneyya stressed.
Meanwhile Haneyya received a phone call from Tor Wennesland the UN secretary-general’s Middle East envoy who called on all parties to exercise self-restraint.
“The UN is exerting strenuous efforts to de-escalate the situation particularly at the Al-Aqsa compound” Wennesland added.
Restating the necessity for the UN not to provide a cover for aggressive Israeli practices at the Al-Aqsa Mosque Haneyya demanded that Palestinian worshippers be allowed free access to the mosque and not be attacked by Israeli occupation forces and all Palestinians who were detained in and around the mosque to be released.
Haneyya also called for an end to plans by extremist Israeli settlers to perform the “Passover” sacrifice at the Al-Aqsa compound and to end all raids and assassinations by the Israeli occupation army across the occupied West Bank particularly in Jenin.
