Wednesday 28-February-2007

GAZA (PIC)– PA premier Ismail Haneyya on Tuesday called on Hamas and Fatah factions to submit names of their candidates to the upcoming PA unity government which he is currently working on the formation of setting this coming Friday as a deadline.

The premier’s invitation came during a meeting he held with delegations from the two Palestinian factions at his office in Gaza city that comes in the framework of his efforts to form the first PA unity government.

Haneyya according to well informed sources briefed representatives of the two factions on the latest developments in the Palestinian arena as well as Arab and international stands towards the unity government.

Atmosphere of the meeting the sources added was positive as all parties highlighted the importance to enhance the Palestinian national unity and to achieve political pluralism in the Palestinian arena.

In an interview he made with the Saudi Okath newspaper Haneyya expressed hopes that he will be able to form the next government within the coming few days and before the lapse of the deadline set by the PA constitution.

He also called on the Quartet Committee to change its unfavorable policy towards the PA government being a duly elected government and to respect the political will of the Palestinian people.

“We hope that the Quartet Committee will change its unfavorable policy in dealing with the democratically-elected PA government and to lift the one-year old unjust economic and political blockade that the international community imposed against the Palestinian people” Haneyya said.

He also attached hopes on the Arab summit in the Saudi capital Riyadh next month in providing political cover for the Saudi-sponsored Makkah agreement and that it would contribute in realizing the national aspirations of the Palestinian people.
