Haneyya meets Turkish president in Istanbul

Sunday 2-February-2020

Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya met with Turkish president Recep Erdogan on Saturday and discussed with him different issues related to the Palestinian cause especially the pro-Israel deal of the century which was announced recently by the US administration.

During the meeting which was held at Vahdettin Pavilion in Istanbul both sides expressed their belief that the US deal of the century would be doomed to failure and agreed on the importance of having a unified Palestinian position backed by Arab and Islamic countries to thwart the plan.

Haneyya reviewed his Movement’s efforts to heal the rift in the Palestinian arena at all levels and his recent contact with president Mahmoud Abbas to coordinate positions and steps at such crucial stage and keep in touch with leaders in the Arab and Islamic worlds to make common cause against the US plan.

According to Haneyya’s office the meeting with the Turkish president was part of current efforts made by the Movement and its leadership to rally regional and international support for the Palestinian position.
