Political bureau chairman of Hamas Ismail Haneyya on Tuesday evening phoned the Imam of holy al-Aqsa Mosque Sheikh Ekrema Sabri to check on his health status.
Reaching out to Sheikh Sabri by phone Haneyya expressed his sympathy with the Imam who was injured by the Israeli occupation forces in clashes outside al-Aqsa Mosque earlier Tuesday.
Haneyya said the Palestinian people and scholars will remain on guard to Israeli attempts to hold sway over al-Aqsa.
Sheikh Sabri along with dozens of Palestinian worshipers were left injured in clashes with the Israeli forces near al-Asbat Gate.
