Haneyya reaches out to Arab leaders over reconciliation progress

Tuesday 17-October-2017

Head of Hamas’s Political Bureau Ismail Haneyya on Monday briefed Arab leaders on the latest developments regarding the Palestinian reconciliation process.

Speaking to the Tunisian President al-Baji Kaied al-Sebssi by phone Haneyya said Tunisia stands as a prototype of political reform in the region.

The Tunisian President lauded the reconciliation agreement signed between Fatah and Hamas in Cairo saying it signals a new page in the Palestinian liberation struggle.

Al-Sebssi also stressed Tunisia’s commitment to boost Palestinian unity by all means available.

Reaching out to the Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Abul Gheit Haneyya vowed that Hamas will leave no stone unturned until all the terms of the consensus accord materialize on the ground.

Abul Gheit acclaimed the steps made by Hamas to shore up national reconciliation and Egypt’s positive role in making the agreement come true.

He added that the reconciliation deal will help the Palestinians establish an independent state and achieve national liberation.

The Arab League’s chief extended an invitation to Haneyya to pop in the organization’s headquarters and hold direct talks over key issues related to the Palestinian and regional affairs.

In a telephone conversation with the Moroccan Premier Saad Eddine El Othmani of the Islamist Justice and Development Party Haneyya said Hamas is keen on making more steps forward on the reconciliation road.

He further briefed the Moroccan top official on Israeli’s Judaization schemes in Occupied Jerusalem and attempts to impose a new fait accompli at Muslims’ holy al-Aqsa Mosque.

For his part El Othmani hailed the newly-struck reconciliation deal which he said would help the Palestinians and the region overcome their divisive rifts.

“We will always stand up for whatever brings back your happiness and alleviates your pain. We wish you all the best . . . . We will keep up our support until the liberation of Palestine” vowed the Moroccan Prime Minister.

On October 12 2017 Fatah and Hamas movements signed a reconciliation accord in the presence of the Egyptian Intelligence Minister Khaled Fawzi following a round of talks in Cairo. Key to the deal is retrieving the government’s mission in Gaza lifting sanctions by the Palestinian Authority on the enclave and setting the stage for nationwide elections.
