Political Bureau head of Hamas Ismail Haneyya met on Thursday with Egyptian security officials who arrived in the blockaded Gaza Strip a few days ago to broker intra-reconciliation talks.
A Hamas delegation led by Haneyya Khalil al-Hayya and Fathi Hamad who wrapped up on Thursday a three-week round of meetings in Cairo met with an Egyptian delegation led by intelligence official Sameh Nabeel who is in charge of the Palestinian file.
Egyptian security officials entered the besieged Gaza Strip on Sunday to follow up on the progress of national reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah. Egypt which brokered the reconciliation agreement signed on 12 October last year also dispatched the security delegation to follow up the handover of the enclave’s institutions to the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority.
The delegations held several meetings and discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza the reconciliation and border security among other alarming issues.
