Haneyya urges Lebanon to end work measures against Palestinians

Wednesday 17-July-2019

Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya on Tuesday expressed his regret and dismay over the recent measures taken by the Lebanese ministry of labor against Palestinian workers and businesses calling for revoking them.

This came in letters sent by Haneyya to Lebanese president Michel Aoun premier Saad Eddin al-Hariri speaker Nabih Berri according to a press release published on the website of the Hamas Movement.

The Hamas official expressed hope that the Lebanese authorities would revoke the legal and financial measures taken against Palestinian employers and employees in the country.

“We in Hamas see such measures as inconsistent with Lebanon’s official historic and principled position in support of the Palestinian people’s rights and against the resettlement projects and all projects that waive the Palestinian refugees’ right to return” he said.

Haneyya stressed that such measures would not serve the fraternal relations and the Lebanese-Palestinian dialog and would only lead to further restrictions on the Palestinian refugees in the country.

He described the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon as “guests adherent to their identity and their right to return to the areas they were expelled from” voicing hope to see urgent Lebanese action to end such measures and enable the refugees to live with dignity.
