Two Palestinian political analysts predicted on Tuesday that the reception protocols of Ismail Haneyya deputy chairman of the Hamas political bureau in Cairo will positively impact the files tabled in the agenda of his Cairo meetings.
Haneyya and his accompanying delegation arrived last Sunday in the Egyptian capital Cairo to meet with Egyptian officials according to several sources just before his return to the Gaza Strip.
A security source at Cairo International Airport told Anadolu Agency that Haneyya and his accompanying delegation arrived in Cairo on a Qatari plane coming from Doha and proceeded to the airport’s VIP lounge where Egyptian officials supervised their check-in procedures.
The source added that the official visit will take several days during which he will meet with a number of security officials to discuss the latest developments in the Palestinian issue as well as the situation in the Gaza Strip.
The political analyst Hussam al-Dajani said that the nature of the reception protocols at Cairo airport indicated the importance the Egyptian intelligence is according to Haneyya’s visit.
Al-Dajani told the PIC that the meeting comes as a product of a real shift in Egypt’s position toward Hamas Movement and Hamas’s realization of the importance of the Egyptian position vis-à-vis the Palestinian internal affairs.
The analyst expected the meeting to result in an improvement in the relation between the two sides and lead to the opening of the Rafah crossing in a different way than before as well as developing a vision to establish a free trade zone between Egypt and Gaza.
He pointed out that the security file will be the most prominent issue discussed by the two sides expecting this to result in a better security environment on the Egyptian-Palestinian borders especially that Hamas is willing to secure the borders.
The Palestinian analyst predicted that Haneyya will raise the file of the existing crises of the Palestinian citizens in Gaza including the electricity issue the most important problem. He expected Hamas to ask Egypt to pressure Mahmoud Abbas president of the Palestinian Authority to accept the proposed solutions for the electricity crisis.
The Palestinian writer and political analyst Mustafa al-Sawwaf said in a statement to the PIC that the meeting will prioritize the security issue and mainly discuss Sinai file and border security.
Mahmoud al-Zahhar member of Hamas’s political bureau had affirmed in an earlier interview with the PIC that there are expected meetings between Hamas leadership and Egyptian officials in Cairo.
