Haneyya wants PA security apparatuses be restructured to serve Palestinians

Wednesday 31-January-2007

GAZA (PIC)– PA premier Ismael Haneyya has declared Tuesday his full support for restructuring the PA security apparatuses on purely Palestinian vision and away from partisan or factional calculations.

In a press conference he held in Gaza city Haneyya affirmed “We need the PA security institution to be for the entire Palestinian people and free of any form of discrimination”.

The PA premier furthermore asserted that the PA security apparatuses should preserve the national dimension of the Palestinian question and to service and protect the Palestinian citizens adding that his government will support any step in this direction.

Moreover Haneyya stressed that all Palestinian factions must shoulder the national responsibility in preserving the ceasefire deal dissociate themselves from violators and strip them of any organizational cover to pave the way for their just prosecution.

“We as people must prepare ourselves to continue the march of liberation to retrieve the occupied city of Jerusalem and to give more attention to the issues of the Palestinian refugees and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails” the prime minister underlined.

In conclusion Haneyya expressed hopes that the Palestinian people will pass the bottle neck and that truce and calm will hold in the Palestinian arena in order to avoid any unwarranted repercussions.

However in spite of Haneyya’s call Palestinian security sources affirmed that leadership of the PA security apparatuses loyal to PA chief Mahmoud Abbas was thoroughly scrutinizing elements of those apparatuses in a bid to isolate “suspected” Hamas supporters or sympathizers.

The sources furthermore revealed that PA presidential guards group ordered its members to present their IDs for examination; but nature of the examination wasn’t revealed.

Members of Fatah faction were also asked to report any element of the PA security apparatuses believed to have ties with Hamas so as to dismiss or liquidate him as what had happened with PA navy captain Hussein Al-Shoubasi who was killed in Khan Younis Tuesday. Shoubasi was a member of the Qassam Brigades armed wing of Hamas.
