Hasan al-Awiwi enters day 58 of hunger strike

The Palestinian prisoner Hasan al-Awiwi has been on hunger strike for 58 days in an Israeli jail in protest at his detention without charge or trial.

The Palestinian Prisoner Society said that the Israeli Prison Service since al-Awiwi started his hunger strike has held him in solitary confinement deprived him of family visits and transferred him to several prisons despite his worsening health condition.

Al-Awiwi 35 a father of three has been detained administratively since 15 January.

Two other Palestinian detainees namely Thaer Bader 43 and Ahmad al-Horoub 30 started an open-ended hunger strike on 18 May and 21 May respectively in protest at their administrative detention too.
