Hayek calls for pressuring Israel to reopen Karam Abu Salem crossing

Sunday 12-August-2018

Ali al-Hayek chairman of the Palestinian Businessmen Association in the Gaza Strip has appealed to all concerned parties to pressure Israel to reopen the commercial crossing of Karam Abu Salem crossing and allow the entry of stranded goods to Gaza ahead of Eid al-Adha holiday and the new school year.

In a press release Hayek stated that the importers in Gaza would incur additional heavy losses after they had lost millions of dollars during a month of closure.

He also pointed out that the purchasing power of Gaza citizens largely declined and considerably affected businesses.

“The policy of tightening the siege on Gaza which has culminated in the closure of the Karam Abu Salem crossing has led the Gaza economy to enter a sensitive and dangerous phase which could be accompanied by an all-out and dangerous collapse in all aspects of life unless quick solutions are found” he underscored.
