Head of Israel’s defense mission in Paris missing

Tuesday 23-January-2007

NAZARETH (PIC)– An extreme state of anxiety was reportedly engulfing the Israeli occupation government over the reported disappearance of David Dahan the head of Israel’s war ministry mission in the French capital Paris Monday on fears that he could be kidnapped and vital information in his possession could fall in his kidnappers’ hands.

Hebrew media apparatuses described Dahan as “high-ranking” diplomat in the Israeli embassy in France although media sources pointed out that his mission was pure intelligence mission that he covered up under the “diplomat” title.

According to those sources Dahan could be a high-ranking official in the Mossad (Israel’s external intelligence apparatus) and the intelligence coordinator of that apparatus in Europe that per se makes his disappearance a crucial question for Israel’s security.

Israeli security officials affirmed that Dahan wasn’t responding to telephone calls and that the French security forces were closely coordinating with their Israeli counterparts in locating him.

More importantly the Hebrew Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper revealed that a message was found in Dahan’s home that relates to his disappearance but it didn’t reveal nature contents or writer of the message.

The Mossad agents were and still are active on the French arena as they carried out a number of assassination attempts against Palestinian and Arab leaders in the past including the liquidation of PLO’s representative in France Mahmoud Al-Hamshari in 1973 and Iraqi writer and PLFP official Basil Al-Kubaisi in the same year.

However the Mossad killing of Atef Besiso the head of Palestinian intelligence in 1992 irked the French intelligence apparatus as Besiso was invited by French apparatus for consultation the matter that made the French intelligence to view his assassination as clear challenge on the part of the Mossad.
